The Game Gear Sailor Moon S is one of many games based on the popular Bishoujo
Senshi Sailor Moon (Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon) franchise. Compared to the more
ambitious beat-'em-up and RPG offerings for home consoles, this one is a simpler
portable affair with a basic platformer and some minigames.

This patch fully translates the game into English.

You'll first need a ROM image of Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon S. It should match
the following specifications:

No-Intro filename: Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon S (Japan).gg
  CRC32: FE7374D2
  MD5: 33CA01D639AEF0B2FECF2D059175ABBE
  SHA-1: 824E463D0BE5C0E81205A475B5AD7E55C366E486

The patch itself is a standard IPS patch. Use a tool such as Lunar IPS to apply
the IPS file to the ROM. The patch will expand the ROM to 1 MB, so don't use
ancient patching utilities that don't support that.

In an effort to dump and translate scripts for the remaining unlocalized
Japanese Game Gear games, I dumped and translated the script for Bishoujo Senshi
Sailor Moon S over about 2-3 days in late May of 2018. Not much to say about it.
It's my second Sailor Moon translation, the first being the currently unreleased
Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon R on the Game Boy.

I was surprised to find that the script consisted mostly of mini game text
such as instructions and quiz questions, and very little dialog, though I don't
know for certain whether Supper found any additional text in the game. I wasn't
asked to translate more at any rate. I was surprised by how many of the quiz
questions I knew the answers to.

I want to thank Supper and Cccmar for working on this project with me. At this
point I'd say we're getting into a groove of Game Gear releases, and it's great
to see another one reach completion. As always, our work is provided as a patch
to be distributed separately from the original game data. My work is provided
for free and I've received no compensation for it. Under no circumstances is my
work to be distributed with the original game data, nor to be sold in any way.

Fun fact: This was the first game I ever made a text encoding table for, years
ago when I could be bothered taking apart random games no one cared about for
TCRF. I didn't think I'd actually end up doing a translation hack for it, but
when Filler floated it as a possibility I couldn't turn it down. It's always a
great feeling to be able to follow through on an old project you thought you'd
never finish.

So honestly, this probably isn't a game that'll interest you unless you're a
diehard Sailor Moon fan. The console Sailor Moon games are bigger and usually
make an effort to appeal to older gamers as well as kids, but this one is a
typical licensed title aimed squarely at the younger crowd. The main platforming
game can easily be beaten in under half an hour -- double that if you bother
doing it as both characters -- and none of the minigames except maybe Quiz World
have anything more to offer after you've played them once or twice.

Despite all that... well, it's Sailor Moon. And it has really nice music,
which in my book is more than enough to warrant a translation. Seriously, go get
the VGM off SMS Power even if you don't play the game, it's easily the best
part.

Anyway, enough naysaying about my own project. I didn't cut corners on this
and I think some series fans will get a kick out of it, so I hope you enjoy. Big
thanks to Filler for taking the time to translate it, including all 60+ quiz
questions, and to cccmar for helping test (and especially for catching a bug
with the fortune teller intro that even the original developers missed).
